Controversial US-based Ghanaian social media commentator, Twene Jonas, has ignited a firestorm of criticism after boldly admitting to defaulting on an MTN Qwickloan debt.
In his latest online video, Jonas revealed that he utilized the loan service to fund his relocation to the United States, citing Ghana’s economic hardship as his motivation for seeking a fresh start.
“Hardship pushed me to leave Ghana,” Jonas explained. “I needed funds for last-minute expenses, and Qwickloan came through.”
However, Jonas dropped a bombshell: he has no intention of repaying the loan.
“Do you know how much I owed on credit when I left Ghana for the USA? I borrowed money from MTN through Quickloan for trip expenditures but did not pay it back. I am not ready to repay them,” Jonas stated, sparking widespread outrage.
MTN has yet to comment on the matter, but financial experts warn that defaulting on loans can have severe consequences, damaging credit scores and undermining trust in lending institutions.
Ghanaians took to social media to express their discontent, with some condemning Jonas’s actions as unacceptable and others offering words of understanding, acknowledging the desperation that can come with hardship.
This controversy adds to Jonas’s history of sparking heated debates with his candid views on Ghanaian issues. As the fallout continues, one question remains: will Twene Jonas reconsider his stance on repaying the loan?
