In a touching act of kindness, Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Alhaji Seidu Agongo has gifted a brand-new car to Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, after a viral video showed the football star commuting in a public minibus, popularly known as ‘trotro.’ The video, which quickly made rounds on social media, won the hearts of many Ghanaians who praised Asare’s humility despite his rising fame.
Asare, who is now the national team’s first-choice goalkeeper, has had a remarkable journey. After suffering a severe knee injury in 2023 that kept him off the pitch for nearly a year, his football career seemed in jeopardy. But with the mentorship of former national goalkeeper Richard “Olele” Kingston, Asare fought back and earned a Black Stars call-up in March 2024, stunning fans with his comeback and work ethic.
Speaking about the gesture, Alhaji Agongo explained that he was deeply touched by the goalkeeper’s grounded lifestyle. “When I saw the video, I was moved by his humility,” Agongo said. “Here is someone representing our nation at the highest level yet remaining so grounded. Such character deserves recognition.”
At the handover ceremony, a visibly emotional Asare expressed his heartfelt gratitude. He promised to continue serving Ghana with pride and dedication, saying the gift will further motivate him as he prepares to play in the upcoming Unity Cup in England.
The gesture has sparked admiration across the country, with many commending Agongo’s generosity and the reminder that humility and character often speak louder than fame or fortune. Asare’s story now stands as a symbol of perseverance, grounded ness, and the rewards of staying true to one’s values, even at the height of success.
