Tensions are brewing in the Ghanaian music scene as rapper and singer, King Paluta hits back at popular DJ and media personality DJ Slim over a controversial comment about this year’s Artiste of the Year race.
It all began when DJ Slim took to X (formerly Twitter) to weigh in on the upcoming Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), stating that only Stonebwoy and King Promise deserved the coveted title. He dismissed the efforts of other nominees, suggesting that artists who don’t visibly campaign or show interest in the scheme should not be considered.
“I will be disappointed in Ghana Music Awards if they give the Artist of the Year award to anybody apart from Stonebwoy or King Promise. You can’t show less interest in the scheme and expect to be awarded. This nonsense must stop,” DJ Slim posted.
The comment didn’t sit well with King Paluta, who is also in the running for the top prize. In a sharp reply, he accused DJ Slim of prioritizing public relations over actual performance and questioned the integrity of such commentary.
“Fada! This be loose talk!! So they should award based on PR and not metrics? If someone doesn’t campaign and he deserves it, they shouldn’t give it to him?? Dem for delete you all from the industry,” King Paluta fired back.
What has surprised many is the history between the two. DJ Slim has long been seen as one of the early supporters of King Paluta’s career, having helped amplify the rapper’s music during his underground days. This fallout, therefore, adds an emotional layer to the back-and-forth, highlighting how even past alliances can be tested in the heat of industry debates.
Could this be the beginning of a long-standing rift?
