The National Disaster Management Organization(NADMO) has reacted to the recent earth tremors in Ghana’s capital.
In a press released signed by Honorable Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh, he made it clear that Ghanaians must calm down with immediate effect. He admitted hat such earth tremor indeed occurred. He added that the NADMO, together with the Ghana Geological Survey Authority are working closely to find the causes and also tell Ghanaians what to do. There is no need for one to run away.

This comes after some parts of Accra were hit by two earth tremors. The first tremor was recorded a little after 10 am while the second tremor was recorded around 11: 30 am on Monday, December 12, 2022.

Some of the places that recorded the tremor included Adabraka, Gbawe, McCarthy hill, Kwabenya and Mallam.

The Principal Seismologist at the Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA), Nicholas Opoku has urged Ghanaians not to be worried about the latest earth tremor.

He, however, said citizens in Accra must be prepared to experience such tremors from time to time since the region finds itself in an earthquake zone.

“This is not a new thing we have been experiencing this from time to time…even the most recent ones were in 2018, 2019 and 2020. What we have been saying all this while is that Accra is situated in the earthquake-prone zones so from time to we will be experiencing these minor earthquakes until such a time that a major will happen,” he said.

Meanwhile, People in places that recorded the tremor have already turned to social media to report their experiences.
