Our Lady Of Grace Senior High School (OLAG) Which is considered by many as the most beautiful senior high school in Ghana, joined the rest of the world to mark this year’s International Mathematics Day.
The day is celebrated annually on March 14 to spark creativity and bring light to connections between mathematics and all sorts of fields, concepts, and ideas. This year’s celebration was centered around the theme, “Mathematics unites”. The day was marked with four major activities which included the following:
• Documentary of some mathematicians and mathematical theorists such as Pythagoras, Hypatia, Piaget, William Jones, Archimedes etc.
• Quiz competition among the various houses (Pick and Solve)
• It takes two (pick and demonstrate the mathematical signs and symbols)
• Mathematical Rap competition (Making rap music that contains mathematical content)
According to Mr. Emmanuel Ntim Boateng the Head of Mathematics Department of the School, “this year’s celebration is the first of its kind in OLAG and it will be celebrated every year from today. This will help to create awareness of the importance of Mathematics and arouse the interest of the subject in students”.
At the end of the competition, St. Mary House placed first with40 points, St. Joseph House placed second with 36 points, St. Thomas House placed third with 35.2 points and St. Paul House placed fourth with 35 points.
In all, the International Mathematics Day at OLAG was very Educative, Entertaining and Creative.
