Wendy Shay Defends and Uplifts Young Girl Tracy After Viral Dance Sparks Controversy.
In November 2024, Ghanaian Afropop star Wendy Shay released a single titled ” Too Late”. While the song initially performed well, it wasn’t until April 2025 that it truly exploded into a national hit and thanks to an unexpected source: a young girl named Tracy.
During a live performance in early April, a video surfaced online showing Tracy, a little girl in the crowd, dancing passionately to Too Late. Her energy, confidence, and rhythm captured the hearts of thousands. The clip quickly went viral, propelling the song to new heights, including over 3 million streams on Audiomack as at now.
But as the video spread, so did criticism. Some online commentators targeted Tracy, calling her dance inappropriate and questioning her upbringing. The backlash was swift and harsh, with some accusing her parents of negligence.
Wendy Shay, however, saw something entirely different. On April 4th, the artist took to social media to defend Tracy, writing:
“My performance over the weekend has put light on a little girl dancing passionately and happily in the crowd and it’s surprising how some people cannot easily identify a talented and confident child when they see one. I see a lot of negative comments under the post and it is heartbreaking because what I see is a beautiful, talented and confident young girl who could become a professional dancer or a musician if she is carefully guided. Let us advance our mindset and see positivity in things like this.”
Her statement was met with overwhelming support from fans, celebrities, and child advocates alike. Many praised Wendy Shay for standing up for Tracy and for promoting a positive narrative about talent and confidence in children.
Since then, Wendy Shay has gone beyond words. She has taken a personal interest in Tracy’s well-being and future, offering support towards her education and mentoring her through the early stages of her artistic journey. What began as a viral moment is now turning into a life-changing opportunity for one young girl.
Thanks to the empathy and leadership of one of Ghana’s biggest music stars.
