WHEN Kumawood actor Lil Win declared his intentions to stand as an independent parliamentary candidate for the Afigya Kwabre South Constituency in the Ashanti Region, he expected industry colleagues to rally around him in support. However, to his surprise, he was greeted with taunts.
In a chat with Graphic Showbiz, Lil Win is asking those colleagues to shut up if they have nothing good to offer because he is very positive he would do well in politics.
“I thought I was going to get a lot of support from the creative people but all I hear are insults and discouraging comments. I have heard some bad comments but they are not going to deter me from pursuing my political ambition.
“The only people who showed support are those I featured in my Cocoa Season TV series. Well, I believe every good thing has some negatives so I consider the hatred shown to me as part of the negativity.
“So far, the few things I have done for my constituency are enough to show what I can do when I am voted as MP. Apart from the school I have built and helping individuals among others, there are a lot more I want to do,” he said.
Asked about his chances of winning as an independent candidate, Lil Win, real name Kwadwo Nkansah, said it is a done deal for him because he has the support of the masses.
“I know what I do and can do for my constituency and so when the time comes, my people will show me love and vote for me. And I have some wealthy men supporting my campaign and I am not joking about making an impact in politics,” he added.
According to Lil Win, if George Weah, a footballer, is now President of Liberia, and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger could become Governor of California, he doesn’t see why he can’t go into politics.
“A lot of entertainers or people in the creative industry have made an impact in politics globally and I believe I can do the same. I don’t think I need to be fluent in the English language to go into politics or to be a good politician,” he added.
