Sarkodie’s Legal Team Denies Withdrawal of Ecobank Lawsuit, Threatens Legal Action Against False Publications
The legal team representing award-winning musician Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie, has firmly denied reports suggesting he has moved to withdraw his ongoing lawsuit against Ecobank Ghana Ltd.
In a strongly worded statement issued by Robert Smith Law Group, Sarkodie’s lawyers described the publications as “baseless, malicious, and an affront to the judicial process.” They categorically stated that they have received no instructions from their client to discontinue the case, have taken no steps to withdraw the suit, and have not approached Ecobank with any such request.
The law firm emphasized that the matter remains active before the courts and clarified that in civil proceedings, a plaintiff does not require the defendant’s consent to discontinue an action before the defendant files a Statement of Defence — something that has not yet occurred in this case.
Warning against further false and prejudicial reporting, the legal team cited Section 225 of Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), noting that publications intended to stir public prejudice in ongoing court matters constitute a criminal offense. They cautioned that should such false narratives persist, they would not hesitate to pursue full legal remedies against the responsible parties.
The legal notice, signed by Bobby Banson, Esq., concludes by affirming the legal team’s commitment to protecting their client’s interests and the integrity of the judicial process.
